Text truncator

Shorten text to fit a limit, such as 150 words for an abstract or 160 characters for a description. The tool cuts at the end of a word, and can end at the last full sentence.

Character limits stop at the end of a word when possible, so words are not cut in half.

How it works

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Set the limit and choose words or characters.
  3. Copy the shortened text.

Word limit

The text is cut after the number of words you set, and your original spacing and line breaks are kept.

Character limit

The text is cut at the limit and moves back to the end of the previous word, so no word is cut in half.

End at a sentence

Turn this on to stop at the last full sentence inside the limit, when that keeps most of the text.

Ellipsis

Add an ellipsis (…) to show the text was cut. It is not added when the cut ends a full sentence.
