Generate meta tags for a page

Fill in your page title and description and get the HTML tags to paste into the head of your page. You also get Open Graph tags for Facebook and WhatsApp, Twitter card tags, a canonical link and a robots tag. A live preview shows how the search result may look.

0 characters. Aim for 60 or fewer.
0 characters. Aim for 120 to 160.

How it works

  1. Type the title and description.
  2. Add the page address and a share image if you have one.
  3. Copy the tags into your page's head section.

Title and description lengths

Search engines show about 60 characters of a title and about 160 of a description, and cut the rest. The counters turn red when you go over. These are guides, not strict rules, because the real limit depends on pixel width.

Open Graph and Twitter tags

Open Graph tags decide the title, text and picture shown when your page is shared on Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and many chat apps. Twitter card tags do the same for X. With an image the large card is used.

Share image

Use a full web address to a picture about 1200 by 630 pixels. Relative paths do not work for share previews.

The robots tag

Index and follow is the normal choice. Choose noindex for pages you do not want in search results, such as thank-you pages. Special characters in your text are escaped so the HTML stays valid.

Questions

Where do I paste the tags?

Between the head tags of your page. In WordPress an SEO plugin usually has fields for the same things.

Is the preview exact?

It is an approximation. Search engines may show different text.

Do meta descriptions affect ranking?

Not directly, but a clear one can make people more likely to click your result.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your text stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
