Keyword density checker

Keyword density is how often a word or phrase appears compared with the total number of words. Paste your copy to see its most used words, two-word phrases or three-word phrases, with counts and percentages.

Use it to spot a word you repeat too often, or to confirm that your main topic really shows up in the text.

Paste some text to see which words it uses most.

How it works

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Choose single words, two-word or three-word phrases.
  3. Read the table. Turn the common words filter off if you want every word counted.

How density is worked out

Density is the number of times a word appears divided by the total number of words in the text, shown as a percentage. A word used 5 times in a 200 word text has a density of 2.5%.

Common words

Words like the, and and of fill every text and tell you nothing. They are hidden by default so the table shows your real topic words. For phrases, any phrase that starts or ends with a common word is skipped.

No magic number

There is no density that search engines reward. Write for people first. Use this tool to catch heavy repetition, not to hit a target percentage.

Other languages

Any language that separates words with spaces works, including Bangla. The common word list is English only, so turn it off for other languages.

Questions

What is a good keyword density?

There is no official figure. If a word sounds repeated when you read the text aloud, it probably is.

Does it count words inside HTML tags?

It counts whatever you paste, so paste the visible text rather than page code.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your text stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
