Toolstia / Hours calculator
Hours worked calculator
Enter a start time, an end time and an unpaid break to get the hours worked, including shifts that go past midnight. Or switch to a list and add up times such as 1:30, 2h 15m and 45m to get a total.
8:00
8.00 hours
How it works
- Choose between a start and end time, or a list to add up.
- Enter the times.
- Read the total, shown as hours and minutes and as decimal hours.
Start and end time
The hours are the time from start to end minus the break. If the end time is earlier than the start, the shift is taken to end the next day, so 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours.
Decimal hours
Pay is often worked out in decimal hours: 8 hours 30 minutes is 8.5 hours. Both forms are shown so you can use either on a timesheet.
Adding a list
Write one time per line. Formats such as 1:30, 1h 30m, 90m and 2 hours 15 minutes all work. Put a minus sign in front of a time to subtract it, for example -0:20.
Limits
Each shift is shorter than 24 hours. The tool does not know about dates, time zones or daylight saving changes.
Questions
Can I enter a plain number like 90?
No, because it could mean 90 minutes or 90 hours. Write 90m or 1:30.
What if my break is longer than my shift?
The tool asks you to check the times instead of showing a negative result.
Does it calculate pay?
No, but you can multiply the decimal hours by your hourly rate.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Your times stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
