Depreciation calculator

Spread the cost of an asset over its useful life. Choose a method and see the depreciation, accumulated depreciation and book value for every year.

For accounting practice. Tax rules for depreciation differ by country, so check the method your tax authority allows. The declining-balance schedule never goes below the salvage value, and the last year takes whatever is left.

How it works

  1. Enter the cost, salvage value and life.
  2. Choose a method.
  3. Read the yearly schedule.

Straight-line

The same amount each year: cost minus salvage, divided by the useful life.

Declining balance

A fixed percentage of the remaining book value each year, so early years take more. The factor 2 gives double declining balance.

Sum-of-the-years digits

Early years take a larger share, using a falling fraction based on the remaining life.

Salvage value

This is what you expect the asset to be worth at the end. Book value never goes below it.
