Toolstia / text to hex converter

Text to hex converter

Convert text into its hexadecimal byte values, or paste hex bytes and read the text. The conversion uses UTF-8, so accented letters, other scripts and emoji work correctly.

Text is converted as UTF-8, so accented letters and emoji take more than one byte.

How it works

  1. Choose text to hex or hex to text.
  2. Set the separator, case and prefix options.
  3. Paste your input and copy the result.

UTF-8 bytes

Plain English letters take one byte each, accented letters two, many Asian characters three and emoji four. The result counts the bytes for you.

Flexible input

When converting back, bytes can be separated by spaces, commas or colons, or run together, and 0x prefixes are accepted.

Errors

Odd numbers of digits, characters outside 0-9 and A-F, and byte sequences that are not valid UTF-8 produce a clear message.

Developer use

Handy for debugging network data, checking encodings and preparing byte strings for code.
