Toolstia / ASCII converter
ASCII converter
Turn any text into its character codes in decimal, hexadecimal, binary or octal, or paste a list of codes and get the text back. Works with the whole of Unicode, so emoji and non-Latin scripts convert too.
Codes are Unicode code points. For the first 128 characters they are the same as ASCII, so A is 65 (hex 41).
How it works
- Choose text to codes or codes to text.
- Pick decimal, hex, binary or octal.
- Paste your input and copy the result.
ASCII and Unicode
ASCII defines codes 0 to 127, so A is 65 (hex 41, binary 01000001). Unicode extends that to over a million characters, and the first 128 match ASCII.
Formats
Hex values are two digits, binary values are padded to 8 bits and octal to 3 digits. When decoding, prefixes such as 0x are accepted.
Separators
Codes can be separated with spaces, commas or new lines. Invalid numbers are named in the error message.
Bytes versus code points
This tool shows code points. To see the UTF-8 bytes of text, use the text to hex converter.
