Temperature converter

Convert a temperature between Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Rankine. The table shows all four scales for the same temperature at once.

1 Celsius (°C) = 33.8 Fahrenheit (°F)
Unit1 Celsius (°C) equals
Celsius (°C)1
Fahrenheit (°F)33.8
Kelvin (K)274.15
Rankine (°R)493.47

How it works

  1. Type the value.
  2. Choose the unit you are converting from and the unit you want.
  3. Read the result, and scan the table for every other unit at once.

Formulas

°F = °C × 9/5 + 32. °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. K = °C + 273.15. °R = °F + 459.67.

Useful reference points

Water freezes at 0 °C (32 °F) and boils at 100 °C (212 °F) at sea level. Body temperature is about 37 °C (98.6 °F). The scales meet at −40, where Celsius and Fahrenheit are equal.

Absolute zero

Nothing can be colder than 0 K (−273.15 °C, −459.67 °F). The converter shows an error instead of an impossible value.

Kelvin and Rankine

These are absolute scales that start at absolute zero and are used in science and engineering.

Questions

Is 0 °C the same as 32 °F?

Yes.

Why is there no degree sign on Kelvin?

Kelvin is written as K, not °K, because it is an absolute unit.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
