Toolstia / Screen resolution checker

Check your screen resolution

This page reads your screen and browser and shows the resolution, the size of the browser window, the pixel ratio, the colour depth and your orientation. The window size updates live when you resize it.

Reading your screen…

How it works

  1. Open the page. Your details appear straight away.
  2. Resize the window or turn your device to see the numbers change.
  3. Copy the details if you need to send them to someone.

Resolution and real pixels

The screen resolution is shown in CSS pixels. Many phones and laptops pack several real pixels into each CSS pixel. The real pixel estimate multiplies the two, so a 1440 by 900 screen with a ratio of 2 has about 2880 by 1800 real pixels.

Viewport

The viewport is the part of the browser that shows web pages. Web designers use it to choose layouts, so it changes when you resize the window or zoom in.

Pixel ratio

A ratio of 1 is a standard screen. Retina and most modern phone screens use 2 or 3. Browser zoom also changes this number.

What is read

Everything is read from your browser on this page. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, and no network lookup is used, so your IP address is not shown.

Questions

Why does my resolution look wrong?

Operating system scaling affects the number. A 4K screen scaled to 200% reports 1920 by 1080.

Why does the window size change when I zoom?

Zooming in makes pages use fewer, larger CSS pixels.

Can it show my IP address?

No. That needs an online lookup, which this site does not do.

Is the browser name accurate?

It is the text your browser reports, which can be changed by extensions or settings.
