Why convert JPG to PNG
PNG is lossless and is accepted almost everywhere. It is useful when you plan to edit a picture several times, because saving a JPG again and again slowly loses detail, while PNG does not.
Will the picture look better?
No. A JPG has already lost some detail when it was first saved, and converting it to PNG cannot bring that back. The PNG will look the same as the JPG, but it will not lose any more.
File size
Expect the PNG to be larger than the JPG, often several times larger for photographs. If size matters more than exact quality, keep the JPG or try WebP.
Transparency
JPG has no transparent areas, so the PNG is fully opaque. To remove a background you need a separate editing step.
