Discount calculator
Work out the price after a discount, the original price before it, or the percentage off. Pick what you want to find and enter the other two numbers.
How it works
- Choose what to find.
- Enter the two numbers asked for.
- Read the price, the amount saved and the percentage.
Price after discount
Final price = original price x (1 - discount / 100). A 20% discount on 2,500 saves 500 and leaves 2,000.
Finding the original price
If you paid 800 after a 20% discount, the original price was 800 / (1 - 0.20) = 1,000. This is not 800 plus 20%, which is a common slip.
Finding the discount percentage
Percentage off = (original - final) / original x 100. A jump from 1,200 down to 900 is a 25% discount.
Several discounts
Two discounts in a row do not add up. 20% off and then 10% off is 28% off in total, not 30%. Run the calculator twice, using the first result as the next starting price.
