Compress an image to 20 KB

Some application portals only accept images up to 20 KB. This page is set to 20 KB. Drop in your image and download a version that fits, without sending your photo to a server.

JPG, PNG or WebP. Up to 20 images. Nothing is uploaded.

The tool keeps the quality as high as it can while staying under your limit, and only makes the picture smaller if it has to. Transparent areas become white. Photo data such as GPS is not kept.

How it works

  1. Choose the largest size you are allowed (the buttons set common limits).
  2. Drop in your images. They are compressed one by one.
  3. Check the new size on each result and download it.

What 20 KB means for a photo

At 20 KB a photo has to be small in pixels as well as heavily compressed. A passport-style face photo of around 200 x 230 pixels usually fits. A large, detailed picture will be scaled down a lot.

Pixels versus file size

Some forms limit both the size in KB and the size in pixels. This tool controls the KB. If you also need exact pixels, use the exam photo and signature resizer, which lets you set both.

Tips for a sharper result

Start from the original photo, not a screenshot or a picture already sent through a chat app. Crop away empty background so the pixels you keep are the ones that matter.

Check the form

Look at the exact rules on the page you are uploading to. Rules differ between websites, and the tool cannot know them for you.

Questions

Why does my photo look smaller after compressing?

To reach 20 KB the tool sometimes has to reduce the pixel size as well as the quality. The result shows the final width and height.

Can I get exactly 20 KB?

The result is at or just under 20 KB. It will not go over.

Does it keep GPS data?

No. The new file has no photo metadata.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no watermark.
