Flip a coin

Press the button to flip a coin and get heads or tails. You can also flip many coins at once and see how many land each way, which is handy for probability lessons.

How it works

  1. Choose how many coins to flip.
  2. Press Flip.
  3. Read the result and the running tally.

A fair flip

Each coin is decided with your browser's secure random number generator, so heads and tails each have a 50% chance, and a flip is never affected by earlier flips.

Why streaks happen

Real random flips often show runs of the same side. Five heads in a row is not a sign of a broken coin: it happens in about 3% of five-flip runs.

Flipping many coins

With many coins the share of heads gets close to 50%, but it is rarely exactly 50%. Try 1000 coins to see this law of large numbers at work.

Running tally

The tally keeps adding up until you press Reset, so you can see the long-run split.

Questions

Is it really 50/50?

Yes. The coin has two outcomes with equal chance.

Can I use it to make decisions?

Yes, though for more than two options try the Spin the wheel tool.

Why does the tally not match 50%?

Short runs of random flips drift from an even split. The gap shrinks as the number of flips grows.

Is anything stored?

No. The results exist only on this page.
