Toolstia / Barcode generator

Barcode generator

Type the text or number, choose a barcode type and download the image. Code 128 handles any text, Code 39 handles capitals and digits, and EAN-13, UPC-A and EAN-8 are the number-only codes used on shop products.

Check digits for EAN and UPC are calculated for you.

TOOLSTIA-001

Shops assign real EAN and UPC numbers through GS1. A number you invent will scan, but it may clash with someone else's product. Test any barcode with a scanner before printing in bulk.

How it works

  1. Choose the barcode type.
  2. Type your text or digits.
  3. Download the PNG or SVG.

Which type

Use Code 128 for inventory labels, parcels and general text. Use EAN-13 for products sold in most of the world, UPC-A for the US and Canada and EAN-8 for very small packages. Code 39 is older and used in some industries.

Check digit

For EAN and UPC, enter one digit fewer than the full length and the last digit is added. If you enter the full number, it is checked and you are told if the last digit is wrong.

Real product numbers

Barcodes for sale in shops need numbers issued by GS1. A made-up number scans fine but may match another product.

Printing

Print at a good size with a white margin around the bars, in dark ink on a light background, and test with a scanner. SVG stays sharp at any size.

Questions

Does Code 128 support Bangla or accents?

No. It supports basic letters, digits and symbols. Use a QR code for other scripts.

Is the barcode readable by phone apps?

Yes. The patterns follow the standards. Print a test copy to be sure.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your text stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
