Auto loan calculator

Before you visit a dealer, work out what a car really costs. Enter the price, tax, fees, your down payment and trade-in, the interest rate and the loan term to see your monthly payment, the interest and the total cost.

Enter the price, the interest rate and the term.

Dealers may add other charges. Compare the total cost, not only the monthly payment, because a longer term lowers the payment and raises the interest.

How it works

  1. Enter price and any down payment and trade-in.
  2. Add sales tax, fees, interest rate and term.
  3. Read the monthly payment and total cost.

What is borrowed

The loan equals price plus sales tax plus fees, minus your down payment and trade-in. A larger down payment means a smaller loan and less interest.

Term matters

A longer term lowers the monthly payment but raises the total interest. Try 36, 48, 60 and 72 months to see the trade-off.

Total cost

Total cost is all monthly payments plus the down payment and trade-in value. It shows what the car costs you, not just the loan.

Dealer extras

Check for add-ons such as extended warranties and insurance that may be rolled into a loan. Enter them as fees to include them.
