Fuel cost calculator
Enter the distance, how efficient your vehicle is and the price of fuel to see how much fuel the trip needs and what it will cost. It works with km per litre, litres per 100 km or miles per gallon.
How it works
- Choose how your fuel economy is given.
- Enter distance, fuel economy and fuel price.
- Tick round trip if you are coming back.
The sums
With km per litre, fuel needed = distance / km per litre. With litres per 100 km, fuel needed = distance x litres / 100. Cost = fuel needed x price.
Example
300 km at 12 km per litre needs 25 litres. At a price of 120 per litre, the fuel costs 3,000, which is 10 per km.
Real-world economy
Fuel economy changes with traffic, speed, load, air conditioning and road conditions. City driving usually costs more per kilometre than a steady highway trip, so use a figure from your own recent driving where you can.
Miles per gallon
The mpg option uses the US gallon (3.785 litres). Enter the distance in miles and the price per gallon. UK gallons are bigger, so convert first if you use them.
