Convert Unix timestamps

Turn a Unix timestamp (seconds or milliseconds since 1 January 1970 UTC) into a date, or turn a date into a timestamp. Pick any time zone to see the local time there.

Timestamp to date

Date to timestamp

A date without a time zone is read in your browser’s own time zone. Add Z at the end to mean UTC.

How it works

  1. Enter a timestamp, or press Use the current time.
  2. Read the date in UTC, in your chosen time zone, and relative to now.
  3. To go the other way, type a date in the second box.

Seconds or milliseconds

Unix time is often counted in seconds (10 digits today) but JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds (13 digits). With automatic detection, large numbers are treated as milliseconds and smaller ones as seconds. You can force either.

Time zones

A timestamp is the same moment everywhere. The time zone list only changes how that moment is written as a clock time. UTC is the reference most systems use.

Date to timestamp

Type a date such as 2026-10-18 14:30. A date with no zone is read in your browser's time zone. Add Z at the end, as in 2026-10-18T14:30:00Z, to mean UTC.

Limits

Dates before 1970 are negative numbers and are supported. The 2038 problem affects some older systems with 32-bit time, but not this tool.

Questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

The number of seconds that have passed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, ignoring leap seconds.

Why does my result differ by a few hours?

Check the time zone. A date typed without a zone uses your browser time zone, which may differ from the system that made the timestamp.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
