ROT13 encoder and decoder

ROT13 turns each letter into the one 13 places along the alphabet. Because the alphabet has 26 letters, running it twice gives back the original, so one tool encodes and decodes. ROT5, ROT18 and ROT47 variants are included.

ROT13 swaps every letter with the one 13 places on, so applying it twice gives back the original. It hides spoilers and puzzle answers but is not encryption.

How it works

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Pick the variant.
  3. Copy the result. Paste it back in to decode.

ROT13

Shifts letters by 13. It is often used to hide spoilers, puzzle answers and punchlines in online posts.

ROT5 and ROT18

ROT5 shifts digits by 5. ROT18 combines ROT13 for letters with ROT5 for digits.

ROT47

Rotates all 94 printable ASCII characters (from ! to ~) by 47, so punctuation and digits change too.

Not encryption

These are simple substitutions that anyone can reverse. Use them only for light obfuscation.
