Toolstia / Photo metadata remover & checker

Check and remove photo metadata

Every photo can carry hidden data: where it was taken (GPS), the phone or camera that took it, the editing software, and sometimes AI content credentials (C2PA) or XMP tags. This tool shows what is inside and gives you a clean copy.

Everything runs in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded.

Drop photos here, or click to choose

JPG, PNG, WebP (AVIF and HEIC if your browser can open them). Up to 30 files, 15 MB each. Nothing is uploaded.

Cleaning rebuilds the picture without its file data. It does not change the pixels, so invisible pixel-level watermarks are not affected.

How it works

  1. Drop up to 30 photos (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 15 MB each).
  2. Read the report. It lists what was found before cleaning.
  3. Download the cleaned copy. The tool checks it again and tells you what, if anything, is left.

What gets removed

The cleaned copy is rebuilt from the image pixels, so EXIF (camera, date, GPS), XMP, IPTC, PNG text chunks and C2PA content credentials are not carried over. The picture looks the same; the file is simply rebuilt without the extra data.

What this does not do

It does not change the pixels, so it cannot remove invisible pixel-level watermarks such as SynthID, and it cannot stop a platform from judging how an image looks. If a label is based on the picture itself rather than its file data, cleaning will not change it.

Orientation and quality

Phone photos often rely on an EXIF flag to display upright. The tool applies that rotation to the pixels before the flag is dropped, so the picture stays upright. JPEG output is saved at high quality (0.95). For print masters, keep your original file.

Use it responsibly

Remove metadata only from files you own or have the right to edit. Platform rules and some laws require disclosure when content is AI-generated or AI-edited, and cleaning a file does not remove that obligation. See the disclaimer for details.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and rebuilt inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which formats work?

JPG, PNG and WebP are cleaned and saved in the same format. AVIF and HEIC depend on your browser: if it can open the image, the clean copy is saved as PNG; otherwise you will see a message. GIF is not supported.

Why is the cleaned file a different size?

The image is re-encoded, so the size can go up or down. Removing metadata usually saves a little, while PNG files can grow because they are compressed again.

Will this remove an "AI info" label on social media?

Only if the label was triggered by file metadata such as C2PA or XMP tags. Platforms can use other signals too, so no tool can promise that a label will not appear.

What is C2PA?

C2PA (Content Credentials) is a standard that attaches a signed record of how an image was made or edited. Some AI tools and editing apps add it.

Can I just check a photo without cleaning it?

Yes. The report appears as soon as you add the file. You do not have to download the cleaned copy.
