Toolstia / line number adder

Line number adder

Paste a list, poem, code snippet or script and put a number at the start of every line. Choose where numbering starts, what comes after the number and whether to pad numbers with zeros.

How it works

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Set the start number and the separator, such as ". " or ") ".
  3. Copy the numbered text.

Options

Start from any number, use any text after the number, pad with zeros so numbers line up (01, 02, 03) and skip blank lines so numbering follows only your real lines.

Common uses

Number a list, a legal clause set, a transcript, lines of code for discussion, or items to refer to by number.

Line breaks

Windows and Mac or Linux line endings are both handled.

Plain text

The tool numbers lines of plain text. It does not create a formatted list.
