Factors calculator

A factor of a number divides it with no remainder. Enter a positive whole number and see all its factors in order, the factor pairs that multiply to it, how many there are and what kind of number it is.

Enter a number to list every number that divides it exactly.

A factor (or divisor) divides the number with no remainder. A perfect number equals the sum of its factors other than itself, like 6 and 28.

How it works

  1. Enter a positive whole number.
  2. Read the list of factors and the factor pairs.
  3. Check the type: prime, perfect, abundant or deficient.

Factors and pairs

Factors come in pairs that multiply to the number. The factors of 36 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 36, and the pairs are 1 × 36, 2 × 18, 3 × 12, 4 × 9 and 6 × 6.

Types of number

A prime has exactly two factors. A perfect number equals the sum of its factors other than itself, like 6 and 28. An abundant number has a factor sum bigger than itself (12), and a deficient number has a smaller one (10).

Square numbers

A number has an odd count of factors only if it is a perfect square, because one pair repeats the same factor.

Limit

Numbers up to 10 trillion are supported. Long lists are shortened on screen.

Questions
