Base64 to image converter

Paste Base64 text, with or without the data:image prefix, and see the picture it contains. If it decodes to an image you can download it as a file. The image type is detected from the data itself.

How it works

  1. Paste the Base64 text or data URI.
  2. Check the preview.
  3. Press Download image.

Both forms work

You can paste a full data URI such as data:image/png;base64,iVBOR... or only the part after the comma. URL-safe Base64 using - and _ is also accepted.

Image types

PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, BMP and SVG are recognised by the first bytes of the data, not by what the prefix claims.

Errors

If the text is not valid Base64, or decodes to something that is not an image, you get a plain message instead of a broken picture.

The other way

To turn a picture into Base64, use the image to Base64 converter.

Questions

Why does it say the data is not an image?

The text may be cut off, or it may encode a different kind of file.

Is there a size limit?

Only your browser's memory. Very long text can be slow to paste.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your Base64 text stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
